What the law in Malta says
- At most 2 people can live in each bedroom, and at most 10 in one home. A 3-bedroom flat can have 6 people at most.
- The size of the bedroom does not change this: a big bedroom still counts as 2 people.
- Homes with 4 or 5 bedrooms need at least 2 bathrooms.
- Every lease, also for a room or a bed, must be in writing, and the landlord must register it with the Housing Authority.
- On top of the rent, a landlord may only ask for a deposit, contents insurance and shared building costs. Bills should match what you really use.
- Wishmap only accepts rooms and beds that stay within these limits.
